Cathrine finds all her inspiration in the natural world – from majestic snow clad mountains in Scotland and abroad, to the flora in her local surroundings.

She mainly works in porcelain, and has a fascination both with the purity and translucency of the material, and a stubborn desire to master a material which can be ruined by the tiniest flaw or impurity. She has specialised in the technique of water-etching on porcelain, creating delicate relief patterns that are brought to life when light passes through the porcelain surface.

Born and brought up in Norway, Cathrine discovered her true passion for clay during a one year residential pottery course at Agder Folkehoyskole on the south coast of Norway. She then went on to study ceramics at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design in Dundee, where she graduated with a BDes (Hons) in Ceramics in 1999. Since 2001 she has had her own studio in Dundee.

Cathrine is now also the web co-ordinator for the Scottish Potters Association.
