I work as a freelance visual and teaching artist at Tantallon Studios near North Berwick in East Lothian. My studio overlooks Tantallon Castle and the Bass Rock with enormous skies stretching across the Firth of Forth to Fife. As the sky dominates the landscape I have been recently working on series of hand painted ceramic tiles using colour slip featuring these famous landmarks and moody skies.
Tantallon Studios is also home to my father David Cohen, ceramic artist, and former head of ceramics at the Glasgow School of Art. His book The Basics of Throwing: a practical approach to form and design provides a fascinating insight into a back-to basics approach covering the essential principles of throwing on the wheel – all work, publications, classes, talks and tours with further info about everyone who works at the Studios on the Tantallon Studios website.
