Fiona Thompson - Cyan Clayworks

Material:
Earthenware
Technique:
Hand building
Firing:
Electric

I've been making handbuilt objects and vessels for the last 20 years for exhibition and commission. My practice also includes residencies, teaching, community art work, collaborative projects and writing. Recent work explores aspects of tourism and travel, and the natural history collection. I focus on handbuilt one off pieces with layers of printed and painted imagery. These are non functional.

I run the studio Cyan Clayworks, shared with Chris Donnelly, which we established in 2012. As well as making our own work, we run regular courses, one off workshops and offer indivual tuition. There is also project support and workspace/equipment hire available; for professional artists/designers, students and keen amateurs to work on individual projects. The studio is a community interest company.

The studio is open by appointment. To book courses or for more information please see the website or email .

for further details on my work see my own website http://www.fionathompsonceramics.co.uk

Ceramics courses, one off workshops, tuition and studio hire Posted on by Fiona Thompson

Cyan Clayworks is a not-for-profit studio in Edinburgh, run by Fiona Thompson and Chris Donnelly. They both have been making work professionally since the mid 1990s and set up the studio in 2012.

Fiona and Chris make their own work as well as offering a wide range of learning options for adults at all levels of experience. (Please note, as it is a working studio and open plan with a wide range of the usual machinery/equipment/raw materials, we are not able to accomodate children or those with specialist needs).

You can choose from:

Scheduled courses: evening classes, one off tasters, one day workshops and weekday courses. Beginners to intermediate. Small class sizes, often with both Fiona and Chris running a course.

Individual tuition:  for those who want more focused time at all levels from complete beginner to experienced. Throwing, handbuilding, surface, glaze tech, mouldmaking/casting. Practical advice on setting up your own studio; everything from recycling your clay to loading and firing kilns. We also work with other artists/designers who have a project in mind.

Bespoke workshops: for those who want a one off workshop with friends or family.

Studio hire: for keen amateur makers who can work independently/untutored you can hire workspace for three or four hours. Work is fired for you, all materials etc included.

Membership: a new service- see website for details.
