I enjoy the excitement and unpredictability of raku and smoke firing and the way in which the firing process is so visible in the marks on the work. I also make functional, wheel thrown, stoneware which I generally fire in an electric kiln. Since making pots "On Centre" at La Meridiana in Tuscany for 3 months in 2016 I am also exploring the use of my gas kiln for reduction firing and getting my pots into wood firings whenever there is an opportunity! My jellyfish, dragonflies and small books and other fibre related work has been made with Georgia Crook, fibre artist.
I teach weekday and weekend classes from home and travel to groups in their own venues. I have worked with local schools and run ceramic groups in healthcare settings with Tayside Healthcare Arts Trust. including completing a 6 month project at Macmillan Cornhill in Perth with a mini mug "Conversation Piece". Since returning from Italy I have been focussing on making my own work and teaching classes at home.
In 2018 I will be exhibiting at Popups around Angus with 56 degrees Collective in May and December.

Throw and Let Go - Full Week Courses with Fran MarquisPosted on by Fran Marquis
A week long course is planned where 4-5 participants work for 5 days with 5 wheels available, and learn and refine their skills on the wheel such as making lidded vessels, designing and making sets of items and joining thrown work. A few of the best pots or sculptures made at the start of the week could be fired by the end of the week, but generally it is about choosing critically at the end of the week and firing about 10 pieces each, then returning to glaze these later. Letting go of pots made on the wheel allows a freedom which helps the learning process. Please apply to Fran if you are interested in this option. It is only available to those who have enough throwing experience to know that it is something they want to focus on for the 5 days.
Cost £300 more detail on application, £60 deposit is required.
Course dates are July 8-12th (and maybe in the Autumn in 2019).
