Fran Marquis - Springfield Creative Arts
I enjoy the excitement and unpredictability of raku and smoke firing and the way in which the firing process is so visible in the marks on the work. I also make functional, wheel thrown, stoneware which I generally fire in an electric kiln. Since making pots "On Centre" at La Meridiana in Tuscany for 3 months in 2016 I am also exploring the use of my gas kiln for reduction firing and getting my pots into wood firings whenever there is an opportunity! My jellyfish, dragonflies and small books and other fibre related work has been made with Georgia Crook, fibre artist.
I teach weekday and weekend classes from home and travel to groups in their own venues. I have worked with local schools and run ceramic groups in healthcare settings with Tayside Healthcare Arts Trust. including completing a 6 month project at Macmillan Cornhill in Perth with a mini mug "Conversation Piece". Since returning from Italy I have been focussing on making my own work and teaching classes at home.
In 2017 I will be exhibiting at Pittenweem Arts Festival, North East Open Studios and Popups around Angus with 56 degrees Collective in May and December.
