I have always loved working with clay since being introduced to the medium by an inspiring art teacher whilst still at school. He encouraged me to apply to North Staffordshire Polytechnic in the heart of the Potteries, where I gained an HND in Industrial Ceramics followed by a BA (hons) in Design (ceramics). After working as a shape designer for Wedgwood I then spent the next twenty six years working as a teacher. I have recently been lucky enough to return full time to potting and I am enjoying being creative again. All my work is hand built and fired using the raku technique. I am drawing inspiration for my work from the stunning Scottish landscapes, from the rolling hills and exposed mountain ranges to tiny cottages nestled into hillsides or rocky shorelines. I am also inspired by the sea life surrounding our coastline. The raku firing process is exciting and dynamic and ensures a unique piece is produced every time.
