I have been a teacher and maker of ceramics for many years. This has given me the opportunity to explore a wide range of its aspects - different making techniques, clays and firings, as well as the history of ceramics in different cultures. My current work favours hand building and is often described as 'organic'. Some is functional, as in the garden planters, but increasingly I am exploring more sculptural themes - human, animal, birds and tree forms, plus figures inspired by mythology and medieval carvings, notably of the Green Man.
The surface finish of much of my work is influenced by the natural rugged rock surfaces in landscapes surrounding the shores of Holy Loch and the Cowal peninsula, with its history and evidence of early human habitation, such as the standing stones or Neolithic rock art and also mythology.

I high fire my work at stoneware temperatures, making it frost-proof for outdoor display. However, by contrast I also enjoy the spontaneity of raku and alternative firings.
Although retired from main stream teaching I do run courses by arrangement for individuals and groups.
