COVID-19 // IMPORTANT UPLAND STATEMENT
In these uncertain times of a global health epidemic, it is with great disappointment that the Board and Staff of Upland Arts Development CIC have made the difficult decision to postpone Spring Fling Open Studios (23-25 May) until later in the year.
This decision has not been made lightly, but follows recommendations from the government, in order to avoid increasing the risk of the spread of COVID-19 to audiences and participants, many of whom might be from vulnerable groups. Our priority is the health, safety and wellbeing of our staff, artists, partners, audience and everyone who contributes to make Spring Fling the fantastic event it is.
Spring Fling is a three day region wide event that draws over 50% of its audience from outwith the region. It is an important means of income generation for all the independent artists and makers that take part, for shops, campsites and accommodation providers across the region. The event, now in its 18th year, has an incredible following, is innovative, challenging and resilient. Going forward Upland staff will do all they can to find alternative ways to engage with existing SF audiences and to support our participating artists and our regional economy.
Alongside this, we have made the decision to suspend all of Upland’s current projects for the foreseeable future. This includes Upland's community and youth-based projects, Modern Makers, Emerge and Making Connections. It is our intention to postpone current project activity until a later date, which will be revised and communicated as the situation progresses.
We will keep the lines of communication open to all our participants, artists and freelance staff, aiming to support all as best we can through this difficult time.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support and wish you all the best of health at this time.
Please do not hesitate to contact Upland staff with any questions. The Upland office remains closed but staff are contactable through email/telephone remotely.
Sarah Stewart,
Chair, on behalf of the Board and Staff of Upland Arts Development CIC
