I make low fired burnished pots and have evolved a technique of firing in a paper kiln which produces similar effects to pitfiring.

My pots are wheel thrown or slab built. They are burnished and fired in an electric kiln. They are then fired in my garden in a paper kiln. I make the kiln by tightly rolling newspapers. The pots go in with packets of salt, ferrous and copper sulphate. Small pieces of wood are placed around and the whole structure set alight. It is covered with a corrugated iron sheet and left to cool. They are finally polished with beeswax.

The pots are porous so are purely ornamental.
