Maria Nordgren makes unique, functional pottery; thrown or hand built in porcelain and stoneware. She started pottery training in Sweden in the 70s, but went on to become a geologist. After arriving in Scotland 2006, she became a full-time potter and joined Scottish Potters' Association in 2007. She exhibits with SPA and other art and craft groups.

Momentum Pottery is open by appointment all year and for the Strathmore Open Studios in May and Perthshire Open Studios in September, when Maria is joined by Christine Flynn, demonstrating raku firing. There are also demonstrations and exhibits of work by willow weaver Rachel Bower, and stone carver David McGovern.

Maria and Rachel (www.rachelbowerbaskets.co.uk) are collaborating, combining willow and clay to make decorative and functional work. Their work is currently exhibited at Bard Scotland in Leith, Edinburgh.

She is also firing together with Fran Marquis, using her gas kiln at Springfield Creative Arts in Arbroath. Since 2016 Maria has also enjoyed taking part in wood firings and is now part of a wood firing group, of mainly fellow SPA members, building and firing a wood kiln in Angus.

The pottery classes at Momentum pottery are mainly run by Nancy Fuller, who teaches hand building and throwing. For details, please see the website.
