This one day workshop at our studio in Leith will focus on a particular area of functional ceramics: dishes for serving or presenting food; whether that's crudites, sushi, cheeses or crisps and dips.
Suitable for beginners and those with prior experience.
Both Chris and Fiona will show you how to create your own unique dishes, which could include sets of stacking dishes, small serving trays with dip bowls, tapas dishes or salad bowls. We will make these both by hand and on the wheel: creating matching or complementary pieces that can be used for all sorts of different food. We will have a range of templates to us use for slab building forms, and Chris will work with you on the wheel. You can choose what kind of vessels will suit you, and you are welcome to bring a few rough ideas to give you a starting point.
You can choose whether to decorate with coloured slips, or pick a coloured glaze for the handbuilt pieces. The thrown pieces will be trimmed for you once drier, and you will be able to choose a coloured glaze for these. Everything will be fired and ready to collect a few weeks later.
