Spring Gathering

5-6th March 2022

10am to 2pm each day

**Carina Ciscato’s workshop has been postponed due to Covid and will be re-scheduled as soon as she is well enough. Everyone who booked to attend the event will automatically receive a notification of the new date and existing bookings will be transferred. Bookings will re-open for this event once a new date has been announced to allow other members to attend.**

Unfortunately, we are unable to hold our usual Spring Gathering at Tulliallan this year due to the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the pandemic.

Instead, we are holding an online event set over the same two days and showcasing two of the demonstrators who were booked to appear this year.

Saturday 5th March 2022 - Guest Demonstrator: Lesley McKenzie

Lesley

The raku sculptures that Lesley creates are all one off, hand-built original pieces, they are made using earthenware clay which Lesley wets down to create a slop before adding paper pulp which aids with the raku firing. Lesley often uses glazes containing copper oxide, these glazes react with the oxygen levels and can produce some wonderful bronze effect finishes. Lesley will make a narrated time-lapse demo, showing us how she makes a wild dog puppy, mt techniques, tools and clay followed by a real time raku firing of the same pup, showing the firing, cleaning and finished result.

Sunday 6th March - Guest Demonstrator: Carina Ciscato

Carina

Carina’s work is thrown with a range of textures to distinguish different surfaces, allowing new relationships to emerge. All the process is exposed and revealed. There are no secrets. The quiet muted tones of white and blue greys are chosen to emphasize the fluidity and sharpness of the forms, reinforcing the edges, cuts and natural curves. Carina will be throwing and assembling. She will have pieces ready in different stages to be able to demonstrate how she constructs the pieces.

Each day begins at 10am and nominally finishes around 2pm

Format each day:

  • Welcome and introduction to the day
  • Presentation about the demonstrator’s work and studio
  • Demonstration
  • Live Q&A
