Potclays November News

Since our last newsletter...

We'd like to thank you all for your messages of support over the past few days.

We've been managing on a very limited staff to process online orders. Unfortunately our showrooms remain closed, and with the government's recent announcement of Lockdown 2, this will be the case until at least 2 December. Our non‐contact collection slots are temporarily suspended but we hope to reinstate these as soon as we can. Warehouse and production operations will continue during lockdown in line with our daily risk assessments and stringent safety measures. We'll be busy producing clay, building kilns, receiving re-stock shipments and picking/packing orders for despatch via post, courier and pallet haulier - doing our very best to keep you stocked up with supplies.

Thank you once again for your support, patience and understanding.

Shimpo Shipment Due Soon

Our long-awaited shipment of Shimpo wheels and pugmills will be arriving in November. Shimpo wheels have been in very high demand lately, and we know many of you have been waiting patiently for this news. If you have a back-order with us, we'll despatch as soon as we can.

US Container imminent

Our bi-monthly container shipment is on the water and should be landing with us within the next couple of weeks. Then begins the process of unpacking, checking off and shelf-stocking so we anticipate that towards the end of the month we will be in a position to despatch any orders waiting for goods. We're expecting a re-stock of Brent wheels, models B, C, CXC, the now-discontinued IE (get it while you can) and the special limited edition black C and CXC. We're also expecting a re-stock of the wonderful Garrity tools, and lots more besides.

Introducing the TKJ Standing Turntable

“A chance meeting with the wonderful ceramic artist Magdalene Odundo at the International Ceramics Fair, Aberystwyth in 2019 led me to this wheel.  I was demonstrating The McMeekin wheel at the  event and our discussion opened my mind to the possibility of a stripped back version of  a momentum wheel.  A wheel for hand builders that could turn on its own momentum and whose height  could be adjusted as a pot grows.” Tom Knowles Jackson.

'Cape Aloe' by Vanessa Hogge

At once organic and ornate, spontaneous and stylised, Vanessa Hogge’s decorative wallflowers and vessels bring a unique textural and visual dimension to any wall or table. Working in porcelain, Vanessa crafts her one-off flowerheads and vessels in her studio in Cockpit Arts Holborn. She takes an instinctive, visceral approach to each piece, painstakingly sculpting every petal and anther by hand so that no two flowers are identical. Inspired by her passion for all things botanical, and influences as diverse as Frida Kahlo, Indian miniature paintings and Marianne North, Vanessa breathes life into her clay in the form of dahlias, chrysanthemums, daisies, hydrangeas and daphne.

Mudgang Crowdfunder

Mudgang are a small pottery studio and community interest company. They run affordable workshops for the local community as well as engaging with local organisations and running their own charitable campaigns for vulnerable groups. Wealth, gender, race, sexuality and disability too often form barriers from accessing and succeeding in the arts to the very people who could benefit from them most. They are moving to a new location over the coming months. They've had to suspend their workshop programme due to covid and, like many other small businesses, have experienced a massive loss in income. Please take a look at and share their crowdfunder, where people can pre-order membership to their studio or find other rewards for donations such as handmade mugs etc., or share their video on Instagram to your stories.
